Membership Questions


Q When will my membership begin after I apply?

A Memberships will begin the first day of the month after which we have received your application and payment.



Q When will I receive my new member packet?

A You will receive your membership packet four to six weeks from the time your application and payment is processed.



Q How can I pay for my membership dues?

A American Correctional Association accepts checks, money orders and major credit cards (VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Diner's Club).



Q Can I use a purchase order to pay for my dues?

A Purchase orders can be accepted, but will not automatically begin or renew an ACA membership. Membership will begin only upon full payment.



Q Can I receive a receipt for the payment of my dues?

AYes. Please indicate the request on your application or renewal and one will be sent to you.



Q What are the different types of membership?

A Membership types are based upon benefits. Please browse our Membership Benefits, Levels and Dues page to find the best level suited for you.



Q What is a Household membership?

A Household memberships are a cost-saving way for two members who reside at the same home address. Both members will have different ID numbers and voting privileges. Only one issue of each magazine, newsletter or directory offered as a benefit will be sent under this program.



Q If I join ACA, will I also become a member of my state's Chapter?

A Yes. When you reside in one of our 25 Dual Membership states, you will automatically become a member of that chapter at no extra cost. Please go to our listings of Dual Membership Chapters.



Q How do I find out my membership identification number?

A If you are a new member, you will receive a membership card in approximately four to six weeks. ACA will include your membership number on the mailing label of each issue of CorrectionsToday and On the Line. You can also call 800-222-5646, ext. 1920, or e-mail us by using the e-mail addresses on the Contact Staff page.



Q I need to change my address. What should I do?

A You can change your address by phone (1-800-222-5646, ext. 1920) or by e-mailing Membership Services.



Q I did not receive a magazine this month. What should I do?

A Call us at 1-800-222-5646, ext. 1920, or by emailing Membership Services.



Q How do I request a copy of the American Correctional Association Code of Ethics, Declaration of Principals, or Constitution and Bylaws?

A Copies of these documents can be viewed by going to our ACA Past, Present, and Future page.



Q "I did not receive a confirmation number when I submitted my application. Did my application go through?"

A If you provided credit card information and did not receive a transaction number, your card was not charged. Be sure to select "credit card" as the payment method or your card will not be charged.



Q "I submitted my application and credit card information more than once, will I be charged more than once?"

A Each time you receive a transaction number, your card has been charged. If you do not receive a transaction number, then your application has not been processed.
