The Contacts You Need at Your Fingertips

ACA is the place to turn to find contact information for the most important individuals and agencies in corrections. If you are looking for a warden of a prison in Montana or a community corrections office in Maine, ACA provides the information you need in two user-friendly directories.

Recently released, the 2008-2009 National Probation and Parole Directory contains information on adult and juvenile probation and parole commissions, boards and local offices, in addition to state, district and satellite offices. It also contains more names, addresses and phone numbers for key personnel than ever before. It features statistics on selected services, budgets, staffing and client caseloads. This edition, item #234-OTL, is currently available to ACA members for $72 and to nonmembers for $90. Click here for more information.

The 2008 Directory of Adult and Juvenile Correctional Departments, Institutions, Agencies, and Probation and Parole Authorities is the best tool to find information on U.S. state and federal, plus Canadian provincial and federal, correctional systems. Each entry includes names, addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone/fax numbers for wardens and administrators of more than 6,000 adult and juvenile state correctional departments, institutions, programs, and probation and parole/aftercare services. Set for a May release, this version includes an alphabetical Facility Locator and Personnel Locator to aid in finding staff. Institution/facility listings include year opened, capacity, average daily population, security level, offender type, cost of care and number of employees. Statistical summaries show capital expenditures and operating budgets, populations, programs and services, personnel, and much more. The 2008 Directory, item #331-OTL, is available to ACA members for $100 and to nonmembers for $125. Click to order.

Supplement Your Training With ACA’s Online Programs

The Online Corrections Academy (OCA), ACA’s premier e-learning tool, is adding a new course to the Basic Correctional Officer Series. This series is designed for correctional officers who have recently entered the work force and for students in the criminal justice field.  The new “Corrections in America: A Historical Perspective” online course launched this month. The course examines the history of crime and punishment in America, current approaches to managing offenders, the criminal justice system, and the basic rights of offenders.

Corrections professionals will receive training hours and continuing education units (CEUs) for the course and series. Agencies may use the course to supplement their preservice and in-service training because the academy’s courses have been approved and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections.

The cost for the course is only $39.95 for ACA members and $49.95 for nonmembers. Volume discounts and customized courses are available. Log on today and access the free interactive demo and course catalog at www.aca.org/onlinecorrections/.
