Harold W. Clarke,
president-elect of ACA, resigned from his position as
secretary of the Washington State Department of Corrections
to become commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of
Corrections. Clark had served as secretary in Washington
since February 2005. Clark began working in corrections as a
counselor and was director of the Nebraska Department of
Correctional Services for 15 years. Clarke has also served
as an auditor and commissioner for the Commission on
Accreditation for Corrections and president of the
Association of State Correctional Administrators. He holds
degrees in psychology and sociology.
J. David
Donahue,
commissioner of the Indiana Department of Correction, took a
leave from his job in December 2007 to assist the Army in a
review of its detainee operations, The Indianapolis Star
reported. Donahue was overseas throughout December and will
resume his duties overseeing the state’s prison system in
early January. Gov. Mitch Daniels received the Army’s
request and approved Donahue’s leave. Donahue was previously
the deputy commissioner for the Kentucky Department of
Corrections and a prison warden and chief operating
officer for U.S. Corrections Corp. in Louisville, Ky.
Sharon D. Williams
was appointed as the new chief to oversee Region 3 of the
Wisconsin Division of Community Corrections. The region
includes more than 18,000 offenders under community
supervision in Milwaukee County. Williams has more than 28
years of state experience and has established strong
partnerships with law enforcement agencies, service
providers and other stakeholders in the community. She has
worked in adult and juvenile corrections as a juvenile
specialist, a probation and parole agent, a corrections
field supervisor, a parole commissioner, and a
superintendent. She is involved with ACA and the Wisconsin
Correctional Association. Williams earned a bachelor’s
degree in criminal justice from the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
