About
DCDOC: The District of Columbia jail serves as a
point of entry for all persons who have been arraigned and committed for
incarceration by the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, and the U.S.
District Court, including detainment by the authority of the United States
Marshall Service.
The mission
of the DOC is to ensure public safety for citizens of the District by providing
an orderly, safe, secure and humane environment for the confinement of pretrial
detainees and sentenced inmates, while providing meaningful opportunities for
community reintegration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent serves as the
Warden and is responsible for the overall management of the facility. This
undertaking includes, but is not limited to the safekeeping, care, protection,
discipline, programming, and release of inmates remanded to the custody of
DOC.
Provides technical
authoritative advice and guidance to top level management on complex,
controversial, and /or sensitive institutional management, as well as,
legislative or regulatory matters.
Consults with superiors and
other Executive Staff members for assurance of operational continuity. Ensures
through subordinate staff, the effective delivery of operational services to
include safe and secure housing, food services, training, psychological
services, and other services. Coordinates with the offices of the Deputy
Directors, to ensure delivery of program services such as: case management,
health provisions, records management, religious services, recreation and
educational services.
Participates in policy
leadership discussions to ensure achievement of the Departments’ goals and
objectives. Develops long and
short-range plans within approved and anticipated budget parameters, making
operational changes as dictated by unanticipated budget variations.
Establishes effective
community relations and ensures appropriate information sharing regarding the
mission, goals, and accomplishments of the facilities with the public, the
media, the city’s executive leaders and District and Federal legislative
leadership
Qualifications:
Specialized Experience is directly related experience
that included substantial involvement with a correctional program and provided
a thorough knowledge of correctional techniques, or experience in meeting and
dealing with people that demonstrated the ability to work effectively with inmates
and associates in a correctional environment. Specialized Experience
must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and
abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is
typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be
creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to
at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.
Managerial/supervisory
experience is required.
Pay
and Benefits:
Minimum
Range $127,030 - Maximum Range 177,839
