Position Description:

Performs tasks related to the development, implementation, and promotion of national training programs for corrections staff.  Ensuring the opportunity to develop skills, increase knowledge, and enhance their leadership potential. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

The candidate works with the Director to develop a strategic plan for training; conducts needs assessment; maintains up to date training manuals; develops and writes contracts for training faculty; conducts all administration tasks for delivery of training programs. Evaluates completed training programs; markets ACA training programs; interfaces with corrections training community. Responsible for collaborating with the Publications and IT departments concerning the advertisement of upcoming training.   Participates in the development of new Online Corrections Academy courses.

 

 

Position Requirements:

Education:  Completion of a four-year college degree is required. Specialization in corrections, education, criminal justice, or social services is preferred.

Skills:  Knowledge of the field of adult and juvenile corrections and adult training theories; excellent oral and written communication skills; training development and delivery experience; working knowledge of computer software

Relevant Experience:  1 to 3 years of experience in the Corrections Field required.  Experience in education/training is preferred. Experience should include working with a wide range of topics and with multiple levels of individuals.

 

Position Relationships:

Governing Structure: May work with the Executive Committee, Board of Governors, Delegate Assembly and various committees and task forces of the Association as assigned by the Director

Government: Works with public and private granting agencies and correctional agencies on the federal, state, county, and local levels.

Public: As part of the marketing strategy, may be asked to give presentations to non-members and the general public at various types of functions. Professional Development Specialist maintains open and positive communications between clients, vendors, public officials, etc.

Other Organizations: Works with both ACA Affiliate and Non-affiliate organizations as related to the training program.

Association Staff: Works closely with other association staff. Assists in coordinating training program activities with staff from all departments.

 

Position Responsibilities:

Policy Formulation: Has input into the drafting of policies and procedures relevant to the area of training programs.

Planning: Assists in the establishment of the goals and objectives for the training program; makes recommendations to the Director concerning new goals for the ACA; keeps the Director apprised of progress in fulfilling the goals of the training program and/or organization; assists in the research, development, and submittal of training and technical assistance proposals.

Decision Authority: Keeps the Director aware of the items to be purchased for the department as prescribed by the budget.

Budget: Manages the training program budget with the Director's approval, advises the Director of potential problems. Responsible for meeting training program income projections. Budget projections will be developed by the Director in consultation with the Executive Director after analysis of the training needs assessment.

 

Other Characteristics:

Supervisory Responsibilities: May allocate work to assigned support staff.

Other: Requires occasional weekend and evening work during peak training cycles, as well as national travel. Performs other duties as assigned by the Division Director.
