About DCDOC: The District of Columbia jail serves as a point of entry for all persons who have been arraigned and committed for incarceration by the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, and the U.S. District Court, including detainment by authority of the United States Marshall Service.
The mission of the DOC is to ensure public safety for citizens of the District by providing an orderly, safe, secure and humane environment for the confinement of pretrial detainees and sentenced inmates, while providing meaningful opportunities for community reintegration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent serves as the Warden and is responsible for the overall management of the facility. This undertaking includes but is not limited to the safekeeping, care, protection, discipline, programming, and release of inmates remanded to the custody of DOC. Work involves:
Managing security, technical, administrative and other facility personnel.
Providing technical authoritative advice and guidance to top level management on complex, controversial, and /or sensitive institutional management, as well as, legislative and/or regulatory matters.
Consulting with superiors and other executive level staff members for assurance of operational continuity. Ensuring, through subordinate staff, the effective delivery of operational services to include safe and secure housing, food service, case management, records management, religious services, recreation, training/educational and health services.
Participating and contributing to policy discussions ensuring achievement of the Department’s goals and objectives. Developing long and short-range plans within approved and anticipated budget parameters, making operational changes as dictated by unanticipated budget variations.
Establishing effective community relations and ensures appropriate information sharing regarding the mission, goals, and accomplishments of the facilities with the public, media, the city’s executive leaders and District and Federal legislative and criminal justice leadership
Specialized Experience: Specialized Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, at least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression. Examples of specialized experience are managing and overseeing day to day facility operations, enlisting, arranging, coordinating services, planning, programming, and budgeting.
Managerial/supervisory experience is required.
Pay and Benefits:
Minimum Range $122,100 - Maximum Range 170,938
