Q

How do I write for ACA?

A

First, you have to determine whether you want to write an article for Corrections Today, or Corrections Compendium, or write a book. Please see the link for Corrections Today submission guidelines or Corrections Compendium submission guidelines. For book publishing, see the link on this site or contact Alice Heiserman, manager of publications and research, at aliceh@aca.org.



Q

I would like to read some of the book manuscripts submitted to ACA and have a hand in determining which ones are chosen to be published.

A

Please contact Alice Heiserman at AliceH@aca.org and she will send you a form to complete about your background and experience. Then, when we have a manuscript in your area of expertise, we will call you to see if you have the time to review the material. If you do, we will send it to you along with an evaluation form to complete. Incidentally, manuscripts and reviews are sent out blind, that is without any of the author's or reviewer's names, so that the author or reviewer can be free of bias or preconceived ideas about the material.



Q

We had some changes in our agency and information in an ACA directory is now wrong. How do we get it corrected?

A

To send updated information, contact Alice Heiserman at AliceH@aca.org or fax the changes to (703) 224-0179.



Q

How do I advertise a job opening?

A

To place an ad in ACA's on the line Job Bank, e-mail the text for the ad along with your billing information (contact name, billing address, phone number) and ACA membership number, if applicable, to: BonnieC@aca.org. The cost to ACA members is $400 for 200 or fewer words and $500 for nonmembers. For ads with 201-300 words, the cost is $600 for ACA members and $740 for nonmembers. The ad will be copy edited according to our style, then e-mailed back to you with a word count and price quote for your approval.

Ads will be posted on the Web site until the specified closing date or up to 60 days. Additionally, you may choose to have the same ad printed at no additional cost in one of our member publications -- Corrections Today magazine (published in February, April, June, July, August, October and December) and/or On the Line newsletter (published in January, March, May, September and November). Q

How can I purchase articles reprints from Corrections Today, Corrections Compendium, or OnLine?

A

To purchase professionally printed, color or black and white article reprints, a written request must be submitted, stating what the reprint will be used for, the quantity needed, and if you want color or black and white copies. Prices will be secured based upon your specifications. Pre-payment by check or credit card is required. For more information, contact Susan Clayton at 1-800-222-5646, ext. 0190.



Q

As a member of the press, how do I register for ACA's conference?

A

ACA extends complimentary registration to members of the press. A written request on company letterhead, stating the nature of your coverage, should be faxed or mailed prior to the conference, or brought with you if you are registg on site. On-site registration takes place at ACA's Press Booth. Press credentials must be shown in order to obtain an ACA press badge. Fax requests to (703) 224-0179. How can I purchase photographs from ACA?

A

ACA has a variety of photographs in its photo archives that are available for purchase. There is a research and handling fee of $25 per photo, in addition to duplication charges. ACA will provide the photo credit that must be listed with the photograph. Please specify if you would like to receive prints or electronic copies of the photos. Pre-payment by check or credit card is required. Fax or mail your request, specifying how and what the photos will be used for, to: The American Correctional Association, Attn: Photo Research, Communications and Publications Department, 206 North Washington Street, Suite 200, Alexandria, Virginia 22314; fax (703) 224-0179. How do I place orders, inquire about orders, or place a standing order?

A

To Place an Order:

Prepayment of orders is required. ACA accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Diner's Club credit cards as well as checks/money orders and institutional/agency purchase orders. All orders are shipped UPS ground service unless express service is requested. Shipping and handling charges are added to all orders. P.O. Box addresses are not accepted for shipping.

We need your credit card number, expiration date, the card holder's name as it appears on the card, and the billing address along with your order information: name and item number of product you are ordering, number of copies of each item and shipping address. Our hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

You are welcome to fax an ACA order form with credit card payment information or a valid institutional/agency purchase order form to (301) 206-9789. Order forms and check/money order payments may be mailed to: ACA, Customer Service Department, 206 North Washington Street, Suite 200, Alexandria, Virginia 22314. Please do not fax and mail your order, or send a duplicate copy for confirmation. This may cause a duplication of your order. To Place a Standing Order:
ACA's four directories, annual conference proceedings and standards supplements are available for standing order service. If you wish to be placed on standing order for any of these publications as they are printed, please send a letter stating the title or titles you wish, and request being placed on the standing order list. Include your billing and shipping addresses. You will begin receiving the most current edition. Confirmation letters and payment requests are mailed to standing order customers approximately six weeks before new titles are issued.



Q

Can I receive discounts on ACA publications?

A

ACA members receive a 20 percent discount on ACA published materials. Professional I, II and Executive Gold members receive this discount when placing orders and paying by credit card or check/money order. When using an institutional/agency purchase order, you must have an Organizational or Supporting Patron membership to receive this discount. Please see Membership for more information on discounts and benefits.

In addition to membership discounts, customers can receive discounts by ordering in bulk. When you purchase 25 or more copies of an ACA book, course, directory or standards manual, you may be entitled to additional discounts. Q

If I have a book or video that is not published by ACA, is it still possible to have it in the ACA catalog?

A

Yes, it is. We distribute a number of books and videos from other publishers/producers. We are always looking for valuable additions to our catalog.
